The Healing Benefits of Traditional Thai Massage

Thai massage
, also known as Nuad Phaen Boran, is an ancient massage that involves not only deep muscle massage, but stretching, elements of shiatsu, yoga, and acupressure as well. Nuad Phaen Boran actually translates into “ancient massage” or “traditional massage.”

Traditional Thai massage has been practised for over 2,500 years. It not only relaxes the body, but the mind as well. It actually began in India. The Buddhist monks practised both massage and other healing arts. This spread to families and as Buddhism spread to Asia, the traditional Thai massage became a part of both the religious and healing part of the religion. It is believed that traditional Thai massage made it to Thailand around the 3rd or 2nd century BC. Many times, monastery temples were built near medical schools so the art of massage was taught among both monks and medical students.

Traditional Thai massage focuses on the experience of the whole body. It works on the major energy lines, known as ‘Sen’. These Sen run throughout the body. By loosening blockages, the massage will help harmonize the body and recoup any deficiencies of the energy lines. Just as Chinese medicine uses acupuncture to help revive health, traditional Thai massage uses a similar system of pressure points to help heal and relieve stress. The Prana, or life energy, is allows to freely circulate through the body.

Traditional Thai massage has many benefits. Whether you are the receiver of the massage or the giver of the massage, you can feel joy, ease, and comfort. The massage will open up your chakras, allowing you to have a more peaceful mind as well as benefiting your health.

The giver of the traditional Thai massage also will receive generosity, compassion, equanimity, the feeling of oneness, the feeling of loving kindness, and the pride that can only be felt by a healer. The receiver will feel the joy of receiving as well as a calmness of rest and a refreshed spirit. Physically, the receiver feels a general increase in energy due to the opening of Sen and other blocked areas in the body. They will also feel relief from pain and muscle tension, blood and lymph circulation is improved, and the nervous system is balanced. An increase in flexibility is also possible.

Traditional Thai massage is a floor massage. The receiver usually is asked to lay on a pad or light mattress. By lying on the floor, the practitioner can easily manipulate the limbs of the receiver. Massages are given in silence, so the practitioner can better understand what the receiver needs are while the receiver can concentrate on learning about himself and his body. Practitioners start at the feet and moves toward the receiver’s head, making the body feel loosened and stretched. A massage can last between two and three hours. Sometimes it combines techniques used in western physical therapies such as Neuromuscular therapy, Myofascial Release Techniques, and Remedial massage. Traditional Thai massage is great for athletes as it keeps them flexible and helps prevent and treat injuries. It also helps improve the flexibility and mobility of the handicapped.

Aerobic Exercises - Worth Doing or Not?

Some people use aerobic exercise as a warm up exercise before they move on to their real workout such as lifting weights, using dumbbells and stuff like that. What they don’t realize is that doing these other exercises without combining it with some sort of aerobic exercise they will not be able to get the full benefits such as the muscle strength required to lift those dumbbells or other heavy weights. Lifting weights without using regular aerobic exercise may also affect the flexibility of your body. Aerobic exercises are usually geared to strengthen muscle and endurance and also improve flexibility for better body movement. Without these three important attributes you will not be able to benefit fully from any exercise program you chose.

In weight training which is basically a form of isotonic exercise (meaning same, strength, distance), the muscles are used to push up or pull the weights, whether they are dumbbells or barbells and can be adjusted to meet the required amount of weight that you may require and are easy to grip. Some forms of weight training exercises do not use isotonic exercises because the muscle force varies as the joint moves through the motion, but the force remains constant.

There are two basic types of exercises, strength training Exercises and aerobic exercises. Aerobic exercises increases your heart rate through rapid movement of large muscles. The two type of aerobic exercises are: Weight-bearing – such as walking jogging or skipping, this sort of exercise is where muscles will work against the force of gravity. The other is Non-weight-bearing – gravity is non existent in this type of exercise, these are exercises such as swimming or riding a bike. Strength training exercises are used mainly to increase the tone, power and efficiency of the muscles by toning isolated muscles against resistance.

When you compare different exercises with aerobic exercise you find that aerobic exercises offer a wider range of exercise to suit your specific needs, unlike other exercises that are basically designed for one particular purpose. Also aerobic exercises can be used in the treatment of a wide range of aliments such as heart problems, diabetes
and arthritis to name a few. So to elaborate on the topic of aerobic exercises versus the rest, it would be fair to say that aerobic exercises stands out way in front of other exercises, and are practiced worldwide.

The best sports coaches take the best care of their athletes

Being a sports coach can be an incredibly rewarding job, even if it is just a part time you can still enjoy the experience of nurturing an individual or a team which has talent and developing them into top level professionals of their sport. Much like a school teacher teaching a child to read and write, you are able to notice a hidden talent in your athletes and being the best out in them, leading them to succeed at their sport.

But what makes a good coach? Experience is no doubt a key factor. Having played a sport for many years you will have learnt many great skills, strategies and tactics from your own coached. This has undoubtedly helped successful managers in the world of Football, Basketball and Rugby. The same can be said for any sport, a coach who understands the game and how it’s played is always going to have the edge over a coach who has learnt everything they know from a book.

Another sign of a good coach is studying the game, as well as personal experience a good coach will study other teams and other coaches for tips. Many professional sports teams will have entire teams of scouts whose job it is to spy on the upcoming opponents to deduce their strategy, it isn’t unheard of for rival football managers to go to each other’s games to get the low down on how the team play. Watching past game videos if they’re available is a great training aid to point out weaknesses and where the team can improve.

The key factor in any sporting coach is the ability to motivate and inspire your team. This is often a tough and rare skill to master, even the poorest performing team need congratulating for positives in their game but also encouragement to improve for next time. Even during a success the more critical coach will reiterate that no one’s perfect and there may have been a time when winning that the team let their guard down and allowed the opponents to score a goal or get a slight advantage.

The final and most underestimated skill a good sporting coach should have is an understanding of the team as individuals. Many players may feel disheartened or that they are lacking in some areas, this happens a lot with younger athletes. They may become so disheartened that they want to quit the sport, a good coach should notice any players that are feeling this way and deal with it appropriately. Enforcing how important they are to the team may not be the advice they are looking for, it’s important to let the player know that they should partake in the sport only if they want to, if they aren’t having fun then maybe they need a change, this may not mean quitting altogether but maybe changing position.

These tips should help you become a better coach, friend and source of inspiration for your players and team as a whole.

Give You Kids The Gift That Keeps On Giving: Swim Lessons

Parents, understandably, do worry about their children's safety in all types of situations, but around water in particular. However, much of that worry can be relieved if you begin early to get training for your child in how to swim and how to be safe around water. For this purpose, there are a wide variety of swim lessons. Boulder, CO parents can sign their children up for classes as early as three years of age and up.

For the very youngest children in the three to five year old range, there are introductory swim lessons. Boulder, CO kids will start with safe classes where the student to swim instructor ratio is very low during swim lessons. Boulder, CO beginning swimmers will start by using assistance from adults and flotation devices to learn how to propel through the water while taking part in these first swim lessons. Boulder, CO children who complete this part will move on to needing less assistance and will learn to move through the water without flotation devices while taking part in these swim lessons. Boulder swim instructors will next give training on stroke form, breathing techniques and body positioning to this youngest group of swimmers.

Children ages six through fourteen can continue to improve their swimming skills through swim lessons. Boulder, CO students who did not learn to swim before age six can now learn in introductory swim lessons. Boulder students who are beginning swimmers and can swim without flotation devices can work on stroke form during swimming lessons. Boulder, CO swimmers will learn how to do the freestyle, backstroke and sidestrokes.

Children will progress through different levels of instruction during swim lessons. Boulder, CO instructors will take those swimmers who have mastered the beginners classes, and continue their education at the intermediate level with swim lessons. Boulder swimmers at this level will work on getting proficient at freestyle, elementary backstroke, backstroke, sidestroke, and breaststroke while taking these swimming lessons. Boulder students will next work on appropriate breathing techniques and body positioning during the swimming lessons. Boulder swimmers will also learn the final competitive swimming stroke, the butterfly stroke, at this level of swimming lessons. Boulder, CO parents can also sign their children up for more advanced children's swimming lessons. Boulder, CO swimmers can build their endurance and learn how to stroke properly even when fatigued. At this time they will also learn about water survival.

Students who would like to swim competitively in high school can also benefit from swimming lessons. Boulder students will learn advanced skills in endurance, technique and turns at this level.

There is an appropriate swim class for children at every skill level.

Basic Information of Gym Equipment

Arnold Schwarzenegger, Kobe Bryant, Michael Phelps, and Brad Pitt: these people are so sexy and they own beautiful bodies that they have inspired countless of men in the world to go to the gym to build their muscles. For women, sexy ladies like Angelina Jolie, Nicole Kidman, Scarlett Johansson and Halle Berry have encouraged them to work out in the gym for a more beautiful and fit body.

In recent years, gyms have become like malls. Hundreds of people come in and out of the gym to work on their fitness. People do not mind that they have to spend more bucks and allot enough time just to go to the gym. There used to be a notion that people go to the gym just because they are vain and superficial. This is not the case anymore as more and more people have developed a gym culture for different reasons. It is no longer an issue of just having that drop dead gorgeous physique. People, young and old, men and women, go to the gym to be healthier.

Because gyms are one of the most frequented places in the country right now, they have to be complete with gym equipment. It will be a huge disappointment and a big hassle if your gym does not have the machines and facilities you need for your workout. After all, you need several machines to work on different parts of your body.

One example of gym equipment is a weight training bench. It looks like an ordinary bench but its purpose is to assist you in your weight training. To strengthen your muscles some more, you also need to have dumbbells and barbells. Dumbbells are of the smaller variety. They come in pairs which you can carry using both of your hands. The barbell is bigger. It has a metal center connecting the two weights you are supposed to life. To be able to lift these gym equipment easily, you need lifting accessories like gloves and single grip handle. The gloves will help protect your palms and hands from the wear and tear and the friction of carrying dumbbells and barbells. There are also arm and shoulder machines that specialize in building those two parts. These include a triceps rope, a v press and lat bar, a bicep arm curler, and a single grip triceps rope, among others.

Cardiovascular exercise is also very important as it focuses on your heart muscles. A treadmill is one of the more common gym equipment that help us improve our cardiovascular endurance. This machine allows us to run and walk in a stationary manner. Stair climber is another one as it gives you the impression that you are, well, climbing a stair. There are also the rowers, bikes and ellipticals to assist us in our cardiovascular exercises. These machines also help us sweat a lot on the way to losing weight. Activities like yoga and Pilates can now also be done in the gym. There are gyms that provide you panel mats. Indeed, these gym equipment have made exercising easier and more fun.

Badminton The Sport Everyone Loves

It’s fast! It’s fun! It’s so easy to learn that even five-year-olds can delight in playing it. More than just a game for families, badminton will soar you to the Olympics if you choose to perfect your skill level!

Badminton has captivated the hearts of the multi-generational family for decades, as the young toddler who hasn’t reached pre-school can play, as well as the grandfather and even the great-grandfather. Even the first-day novice can feel comfortable playing.

In England over 2 million people actively, regularly, play badminton.By combining skill, speed and subtlety, one can become a top pro.

The tools of badminton are simple: a shuttlecock often referred to as the ‘bird’ or the ‘shuttle,’ and a racket that is strung either with gut or synthetic fibre. The racket is usually about 26 inches long and only weighs about 5 or 5 ½ ounces. And, toddlers can handle the same weight racket as the parents -- if their hands reach around the handle. The cost of equipment?

A pack of shuttles and rackets can be purchased for less than $10 each or you can have yours custom made for quite a bit more. The ‘bird’ is super-light, weighing only 4 to 5 grams. The fourteen to sixteen feathers are fixed onto a kid-leather skin, which is then put into a cork head that is about one inch in diameter. The feathers are what slows the bird down toward the end of its flight across the net.

Winter winds blowing don’t stop the badminton lovers. Played indoors with a net, the sport is a year-round possibility. An empty basketball court suffices, and players are ingenious in finding one that is available. Schools have found that even students who are not athletically inclined can enjoy learning and playing badminton. Many schools offer classes from kindergarten on through high school, increasing the skill level as the students grow.

Hand-eye coordination increases, as does depth perception, concentration, and spatial awareness. Older students learn organizational skills and coaching techniques. And after the school years, adults traveling around the globe can find a large Badminton Club in every major city.

Fast! That’s one word that describes the game itself. That little ‘bird’ can travel in excess of 100 kph. Players lurch, twist, jump, run forwards, backwards, and sideways while lunging to flip the shuttle back to the other side.

The pros will travel more than a mile during a match, and cover almost every inch of the court. Because both the shuttle and the racket are so light, the slightest twist of one’s wrist can direct where the bird will fly.

Fun! Delightful fun! Badminton brings much joy and laughter to the players. When they miss a shot and the bird falls to the floor, the standard excuse is, “There’s a hole in my racket!”
